    Kinda looks like a sort of vice, like the ones for holding pieces of wood together, but I can't see any threads on it. What's is it and what's it for?

    You're right, it's a hand vice. :D There are threads on it, but you can't see them too well on the photo. There are all sorts of things you can do with it, a while ago I used one to hold together some work that I'd glued (to hold it in place 'til the glue had set).
    They're also a handy alternative to thumbscrews! :D
